Native son of Zimbabwe, Ivan Carter stands alone as the one man who can peel back the complex layers of African human/wildlife conflict, including rampant poaching of elephants and rhinos. Having grown up in the bush and after 25 years as a professional photographic guide, hunting guide and leading voice of conservation, Carter brings an unmatched breadth and depth of knowledge regarding Africa and her complex political, cultural and human development issues.

Carter’s newest show, Carter's W.A.R. (Wild Animal Response), produced by Shockey Productions, aims to shed new light into the Dark Continent:

Carter’s experience includes:

  • Youngest person to ever to receive his PG (professional guides) license in Zimbabwe- and one of only 4 to hold professional hunters, canoe guides and safari guide licenses in Zimbabwe.

  • Holds PH licenses in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and Mozambique and fluently speaks 2 different African languages.

  • Owned and operated an photographic safari business for 12 years (1992 -2004) that employed almost 80 employees and serviced 500 clients annually.

  • Co-Host of “As Close as You Dare”, a wildlife documentary focused on close up big game encounters across Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uganda and Tanzania. featured on PBS in 2008 and 2009.

  • Winner of Outdoor Channel’s Golden Moose Award for “Best General Interest” show in 2013 as well as being nominated for “Best Big Game” and “Best Comedy” in the same season.

  • Host and co-producer of an extensive library of DVD’s on dangerous game hunting and conservation through hunting in Africa.

  • Rated by Condé Nast Traveler as of Africa’s top 10 guides (non-hunting).

  • Field expert in double gun use for dangerous game hunting – instructor at SAAM Safari Shooting School in Texas.

  • Chosen by the US Marine Corps as a subject matter expert on the development of the “Combat Hunter” course. This course was designed to train snipers and front line infantrymen in the arts of tracking, observation and “hunting techniques” on the front line of combat – Carter travelled to Iraq and was the only civilian allowed into combat scenarios in a fully armed military capacity.

  • Lectured at Stanford University on the subject of elephant populations, tourism impacts and biological adaptations.

  • Guest speaker for Fortune 500 companies including Chevron, Texaco on the subject of impact of human activities on the environment.
