"Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell 'em, 'Certainly I can!' Then get busy and find out how to do it." How do I even begin to learn about land management? Which programs out there are the best to teach young people about the outdoors? How do I get involved in conservation throughout my area? On virtually every website of each Outdoor Channel affinity partner, there are links to current programs and initiatives that are easy to access, easy to explore and even easier to sign up. Here's just a few of many options out there from our partners: IHEA HUNTER EDUCATION COURSESIHEA is affiliated with the Association of Fish and Wildlife agencies, and its goals are many. Since its inception, IHEA has endeavored to be a primary resource on hunter education, wildlife management, and responsible, citizen-based behavior among hunters and outdoorsmen. From online courses, hunting handbooks, standards, and hunter orange requirements, the collection of educational options from the IHEA is comprehensive and concise. NSSF SAFETY AND EDUCATIONAs the trade association for the firearms, hunting and recreational shooting industry, the National Shooting Sports Foundation is a leader in developing firearms safety programs and conservation education materials. The above link provides quick links to school-age materials, ethics literature, safety videos and links to legislative programs. BOONE AND CROCKETT CLUB EDUCATION PROGRAMSSince the early 1960s, the Club has supported numerous wildlife studies as part of its continuing commitment to conservation. Member Aldo Leopold, widely acknowledged as the "father" of modern wildlife management, set early standards for the Club’s emphasis on research and education. The link above is a great resource for K-12 programs, grants, conservation newsletters and summer workshops and camps. NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATIONAt the time the NWTF was established, there were only 1.3 million wild turkeys. Today that number stands at more than seven million birds throughout North America, thanks to the efforts of state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members and partners. The NTWF's Conservation page is a great place to start to learn about land management, regional habitat programs and other NWTF education and conservation opportunities. |
