Locked Down in a Blind

It's tag a deer or 3-day lockdown for Fear No Evil warriors

That take on the old playground song will play out starting Thursday in the deer woods of Hancock County, Ill., when Fear No Evil warriors Chipcity Spauling and Arika Sanders get locked into a blind for three days, or until Spaulding fills out his muzzleloader tag.

Show host Chris Brackett thinks it will make for an interesting episode on the show, kind of a David Blaine meets Survivorman.

“Chip and Arika, they’re crazy enough to do it,” Brackett said. “They’re best friends, two peas in a pod. You’d think they’re brother and sister.”

Spaulding got the idea during three days of hunting at South Fork Outfitters last week, when each morning they busted deer heading to the blind.

“That kind of spawned the idea,” Spaulding said. “Imagine if we can be in here the whole time and never be walking in and out, busting deer. The deer will have no idea we’ll be there.”

Brackett said it might be a good thing to lock these two down and ratchet up the pressure.

“Arika is real funny,” he said. “She’s smoking hot and puts up with hard, hard hunting. The funny part is she has the worst luck in the world.

“Chip, he’s a skateboarder/rapper/editor/crazy artist type who’s a good hunter. They’ve always been snakebit in Illinois on this farm. They’ve either missed, had close encounters, something has broke. We’ll show their trials and tribulations.”

Planning what to take and how to fit it all in the 6x6 Shadow Hunter is the trick. It’s been freezing cold there and Friday’s forecast includes a wintry mix.

“Chip’s got this giant list of stuff -- propane tanks, a bucket for bathroom, sleeping bags, batteries on solar power,” Brackett said.

Spaulding has a propane heater that should keep them cozy and prevent the water from freezing for their MREs.

“Last weekend I was in there 10 to 12 hours a day, and I didn’t’ die, so we should be good,” he said. “The blind has vents, so I think we’ll be good oxygenwise.

“We’ll see if I can put up with Arika for three days. That’s going to be the ultimate challenge.”

Brackett said Sanders is equally excited about the venture.

“She was ready to go,” he said. “She has a Fulton County gun tag and was going to be doing some hunting there. She would have to eat her tag to film him.”

The two are heading into the blind Thursday afternoon, and the outfitters are going to “lock” them in, so they will spend at least one night in the blind.

“He’s going to do all this preparation and probably a giant is going to step out in the first 20 minutes of the first morning,” Brackett said.

Despite poor cell coverage there, they will provide updates on their adventure. Follow the escapade on their Facebook pages, Chipcity Spaulding, ArikaJSanders and Fear No Evil w/Chris Brackett.

Brackett’s final words of advice:

“Play nice kids. Just don’t die.”
