This week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav, we're talking The Perfect Shot: Honing Your Shooting Skills. So tune in to learn how to become a better shot in the field and to build confidence in long-range shooting. Joining us will be the President and Founder of Horizon Firearms, Derrick Ratliff, plus Ryan Gresham, co-host on Guns & Gear TV as well as champion shooter and host of Shootout Lane, Jerry Miculek. The Revolution is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.
Jerry Miculek, host of Shootout Lane on Outdoor Channel, is one of the best shooters in the world. Over the course of his 30-year career, he has amassed more than 100 world and national shooting titles plus 20 World Records. Tune in to The Revolution as Jerry Miculek joins us to discuss some common mistakes shooters make. Jerry tells Jim and Trav that reactive targets are meant to make the shooter look at them. However, in competition shooting, staring at your target leads to losing time and makes you ineffective, so shooters need to keep moving. This is especially true with multiple targets. Jerry tells Jim and Trav that the shooter has to master a vision technique that allows them to see where they are going, where they’ve been and where they’ll end up, almost simultaneously. The shorter the time and the closer the targets, Jerry says that the shooter doesn’t have time to stare at any one thing, so your vision technique is a critical skill. He’ll also talk about the importance of keeping your trigger finger free. Jerry says that part of the learning curve is mastering how to hold a firearm as tightly as possible, without affecting the dexterity of your trigger finger. When it comes to stance, Jerry says that everything he does is all about the application of himself to the target. He’ll talk about how he adapts and focuses on technique to keep him at the top of his game. And finally, he’ll explain how practice helps you calibrate yourself to the target – your stance, your vision, your grip – to use the least amount of time for the maximum amount of output. Make sure you watch Shootout Lane on Outdoor Channel to see Jerry Miculek in action.
Guns & Gear on Sportsman Channel is all about showcasing and testing the newest guns, gear, ammo, optics and more. Co-host Ryan Gresham joins The Revolution to talk about the new season coming in July. Ryan will also weigh in with his thoughts on what kind of shotgun to start a youth shooter on. Ryan tells Jim and Trav that a lot of people have started young shooters with a .410 shotgun. However, he says the problem with this choice is that the .410 doesn’t pattern great and it isn’t an easy gun to hit targets with. Instead, he recommends looking for a youth model 20-gauge and using light loads which will translate to more success, more fun, and the lighter loads won’t beat up the shooter with recoil. Ryan tells Jim and Trav that he has spent some time recently shooting Aguila 1-3/4” 12-gauge minishells. He’ll talk about their lower recoil, effectiveness and the ability to load more shells into your mag tube, depending on the gun you’re using. Finally, if you don’t have the time to get to the range as much as you’d like, or you don’t have the cash to burn a bunch of lead, Ryan will hand out tips for practicing at home to improve your shooting skills.
