Tis the season to spark the grill and roll some coal… charcoal that is. Yep, we’re grilling game meats and answering all of our listener questions about prepping, grilling, smoking and barbecuing wild game. Scott Leysath, The Sporting Chef, has his apron and game face on and will stick around for a flavorful two-part interview. Then the king of spice and president of Hi Mountain Seasonings, Hans Hummel, will join us for some tasty burger talk. Finally, Michael Bane from The Best Defense and Shooting Gallery, will drop by to catch us up on American Marksman. The Revolution with Jim and Trav and today’s discussion of The Flame Game is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.

You work all season to put wild game on the ground and ultimately in the freezer. The problem is, many people don’t know how to cook wild game properly. Scott Leysath is The Sporting Chef seen on Sportsman Channel and he has endless recipes to take your meals from mediocre to family favorites. Tune in to The Revolution this week as Scott explains why your meat should be room temperature before you put it on the grill and how a meat thermometer can put you on the right track to cooking more delicious and tender wild game. He’ll also talk about marinating meat and why it should be done with restraint. “If marinade is used properly it will enhance, not disguise, the flavor of your wild game.” Then Scott will help you kick off your summer the right way with a recipe for The Perfect Pulled Pork (Feral or Domestic Hog). Scott says that hunters should target wild hogs in the 120-pound range as they are tastier than the massive 300-plus pound boars. Listen for more great tips and recipes.

Good food starts with adding the right flavors and this week on The Revolution we’re here to help you perfect your grilled meats. Hans Hummel, President of Hi Mountain Seasonings, joins Jim and Trav with the hook up for great flavor combinations. Tune in to hear about their brand new line of 5 different burger seasonings as well as a delicious bacon seasoning. Then if you don’t have a smoker, Hans will tell you how you can turn your regular grill into a smoker with their smoke cans. Finally, try their Rib Rub and Hans’ recipe for delicious and simple overnight ribs.

Somewhere between professional shooters and novices, there is a large group of average Americans that are skilled shooters. Honing in on this segment of America, Outdoor Channel created a unique shooting competition called American Marksman. Michael Bane, host of The Best Defense, Shooting Gallery, and American Marksman on Outdoor Channel, joins Jim and Trav to talk about this competition that gives average Joe’s a shot at the spotlight and a hefty prize if their marksmanship puts them on top. Michael says the competition started out of a desire to reach people who might own a firearm or those who have thought about competition before, but were afraid to try it. Partnering with gun ranges across the country they were able to bring in tens of thousands of people and whittle them down with local, regional and final rounds.
