The 4th of July is nearly upon us and while every red-blooded American loves a good old fashion celebratory BBQ that's followed by a parade and a brilliantly firework illuminated sky, others might opt to commemorate this monumental occasion by spending it in thick of our most precious and invaluable resource, the great outdoors. So this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network, we're going to explore the best of both worlds this fourth by spending our time on the water or at the range. While the outside world around us will already be crackling with celebration, a few thousand rounds sent down range will only add to the excitement and glory of the day. And let's not forget our life jackets because all American game fish don't recognize national holidays and that means we shouldn't miss this awesome opportunity to hook-up with massive biting lunkers. Now grab some ammo, sunscreen and your fishing license because we're going to ‘Cast and Blast’ our way through the world’s most awe-inspiring observance of true freedom.
R. Lee Ermey, or “Gunny” as he is known to many, is a former U.S. Marine and iconic film and television star. If you don’t know who he is, you have no excuse. Drop and give him twenty and then listen as he joins The Revolution this week to talk all things firearms. He is back for a second season on Outdoor Channel with his series GunnyTime where the focus is weapons and weapons technology past, present and future.
Gunny says that youth recruitment to shooting sports is vital for its sustainability. Shooting at the National Finals at Camp Perry each year has made a few things clear to Gunny. First of all, he says he believes he is probably at the safest place in America. However, he’ll explain why the age of the shooters there suggests that we have a lot of work to do when it comes to actively recruiting new shooters so shooting sports don’t become a dying tradition. He’ll then talk about his favorite rifle, the M1 Garand. Gunny says they got it right when they invented the M1 Garand, that it is impeccable and timeless, and though it’s been through 3 wars it is still relevant today. He hails the 30-06 has the most versatile round ever invented and talks about its capabilities for hunting and why there is no better round out there. He’ll also talk about shooting with iron sights and why a scope isn’t needed and why there is no replacement for practice at the range.
Don’t miss this entertaining interview with Gunny himself! Tune in this week.
Nick Hoffman is an award-winning country music artist whose passion for travel and the outdoors takes him to the world’s most interesting places. Nick is making his debut on Outdoor Channel as the host of the highly-anticipated, new travel and outdoor adventure TV series, Nick’s Wild Ride.
He joins Jim and Trav this week, fresh off of a trip dove hunting trip in Uruguay to talk about the new series. He says that the show follows him, a passionate hunter and fisherman, as he hunts and fishes for unusual species in different locations and then explores and experiences the unique music, culture, food and history of each. He’ll dish on his time in Uruguay and how a traditional barbeque ended with him eating fried cow intestine, what locals described as “poop”, and his battle to swallow it. Tune in for an inside look at the brand new travel/hunting television series on Outdoor Channel.
The water temperatures are rising if you aren’t spending time on the water you’re missing out on some great action. JP DeRose host of JP DeRose Breaking Boundaries World Fishing Network joins Jim and Trav with real time warm weather fishing tips.
JP says that fishing on beds can be tricky, bass can suck the lure in and spit it back out quicker than you can set the hook and they are able to avoid catching a hook with frustrating ease sometimes. He’ll explain why fishing clear water is a double edge sword, and while you may be able to see them, why you are at a disadvantage at the same time. With that in mind, JP offers his advice on what to throw at the bass right now if you are fishing clear water for small mouth bass. He says that Senko style thick worms are popular and work with success just about anywhere he has fished. However, JP has a different strategy. He suggests using small shad or crawfish, something that will really annoy the fish and provoke a reaction.
He then switches gears and offers up some family friendly advice to those planning a summer getaway that offer family fishing fun for the whole family. JP says that Lake St. Clair is a great body of water that has an abundance of fish for plenty of action for the whole family. There is a large population of small mouth that even the kids can hook up with. He’ll then briefly talk safety on the water. Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s) are crucial for safety on the water. JP says that he prefers the standard 3 buckle PFDs and stresses the proper fit for maximum safety. Tune in for an information packed interview with seasoned angler, JP DeRose.
Mike Strong is the Senior Marketing Specialist at Polaris. Regardless of what your interests are in the great outdoors, Polaris makes a vehicle that is tailor made for what you need. This week Mike talks with Jim and Trav about the Polaris Ranger and the accessories that can be purchased to outfit your UTV. Polaris prides itself in creating the right tools for the job to help you get your work done faster so you can play harder. Mike talks about the patented their Lock & Ride system that makes accessories easier to install. Get a more comfortable ride by outfitting your Ranger with a roof, doors, windshield or rear panel glass. Once fully enclosed, Mike says to think ahead about those cold days coming in fall and winter and to consider installing one of their top products, a heater for your Ranger. While you may enjoy the wind in your face and a warm breeze through the summer months, a fully enclosed cab with heat will be a welcome luxury when the mercury drops. If you are looking to make your cargo box work harder and carry more, consider the “Lock & Ride Bed Wall Extenders”. Trav talks about how easy it was to install these on his Ranger and how versatile they are. Mike then dishes on the “North Star Cooler” and recent testing that was done that proves the North Star can keep ice 30 hours longer than the best coolers on the market today. He’ll polish off the interview with a look at a brand new accessory called the “Lock & Ride Pro Fit Hard Coat Poly Flip Down Windshield”. Take advantage of its ability to be put in an up or down position and have access to full protection from the elements. Get an inside look at must have accessories from Polaris, listen this week.
