LAS VEGAS -- For Cameron Hanes, host of RMEF Elk Chronicles on Outdoor Channel, this past Elk Camp was the best ever.

There were tons of elk hunters and his old friends, but his personal highlights of the weekend took it to another level.

Hanes said he loved the “awesome turnout at my mountain bowhunting seminars, tons of passionate fans who wanted to talk and pose for photos, an amazing Grand Banquet with good food, great people -- got an epic photo with Lee & Tiff, RMEF CEO David Allen and hunting icon, Jim Zumbo that’s going on the wall -- and top-notch entertainment from the Charlie Daniel’s Band.”

Hanes also said no trip would be perfect unless he could get in some running, lifting and shooting.

“I shot my bow at the ISE Sportsmen’s Show each day and every evening after the sportsman’s show, and before the night-time activities, I would meet up with whoever wanted to join me and run in the mountains outside of town,” he said. “Beautiful and rugged country … it seems I am drawn to the mountains of each city I visit and Vegas is no different.

“In the morning before the show started, I would again meet up with others who share my passion for becoming the “ultimate predator” and lift weights in the hotel gym. Seeing people work hard toward their hunting goals inspires me like no other … thanks to all who joined my on my runs and weight training sessions in Vegas.”

To top off his week, Hanes was interviewed on ESPN radio. The hosts broke from debating who was the greatest athlete, Jordan or Bo Jackson, to talk some mountain bowhunting with Hanes live on the air.

“Key terms of the interview - beast mode, bowhunting, big bulls, Realtree, Under Armour, packing meat, Katniss, Adam LaRoche, blood trail, challenge, test. They couldn’t believe that I’d killed a grizzly with a bow,” he said. “Ha. All in all is was fun ... bowhunting on ESPN radio! Sweet.”
