The Best of the West is excited to bring you the ultimate in western big game hunting action. Our pro-staff specialize in hunting and shooting skills that energize, educate and amaze our audience. Each episode demonstrates the reality of extreme distance shooting while using the proper equipment and techniques that are necessary for making ethical kills at any range.
The Best of the West is hosted by
Dan Miller and our professional staff includes some of the best hunters and shooters in the industry. Viewers will enjoy watching our staff hunt big game in virtually all of the western states, Canada, and Alaska. Many episodes will feature hunts with guest stars from the pro rodeo world, such as the PBR'S Shorty Gorham, Joe Baumgartner, Justin McBride and the PRCA'S Wesley Silcox, Kelly Timberman and BJ Schumacher to name a few.
Many of you already know Dan Miller from his current role as co-host of
Xtreme Bulls Tour with Donnie Gay. Dan is a qualified professional with a proven background that includes over 500 national TV commercials. He has also hosted national conventions with companies like Toyota and Subaru. Dan resides in Cody, Wyoming where he performs a nightly Branson style music variety show with his band, just up the street from
The Best of the West headquarters. Dan's personality adds a new element to hunting TV and brings the rodeo, hunting, and shooting worlds together on western adventures that are truly "

Our hardcore staff includes veteran hunter and outfitter
John Porter whose background is in both hunting and shooting. Beginning at the age of 8, John has competed on a national level from small bore to large bore, he shot on the USA Shooting Team with awards too many to mention. His most recent accomplishment was a national championship in 2007 at the H.B.R.S.A Nationals. John is known as one of the premiere outfitters for Big Horn Sheep here in the lower 48 states. In addition, he has spent nearly two decades as a brown bear, moose and sheep guide in Alaska. When it comes to extreme backcountry hunting, John gets it done. Whether it's at 50 yards or 900 yards the odds are in his favor.

Aaron Davidson brings a new level of expertise to hunting television. He uses his engineering background to develop and perfect cutting edge technology that makes precision shooting accessible, even at extreme ranges. Aaron's commitment to the science of long range shooting has enabled him to make significant contributions in bullet design, custom ballistic programs and laser range finders. His revolutionary work has lead to patent pending technology and designs used in the Gunwerks rifle systems and Huskemaw Optics rifle scopes. His passion for hunting is evident from his numerous Alaskan, Canadian and western big game hunting adventures, some of which will be aired right here on the
Best of the West this season. Watch for Aaron in our "Gunwerks tip of the week" and you are guaranteed to learn things that will make you a better hunter and shooter.

Shorty Gorham. Shorty is not only a world class rodeo personality but is a world class young man with a passion for hunting. Shorty has proven that he too can shoot the lights out at ranges you have to see to believe.
UPCOMING EPISODES 1 - Porter Alaskan Moose Hunt
Despite a serious injury to his trigger finger, Pro Staff John Porter sets out to an undisclosed location of beautiful Alaska to pursue a trophy bull moose. Mike Colpo of Lazy J Bar O Outfitters takes John to the location and maneuvers him within range to make an exceptional shot.
2 - Mike & Aaron Montana Spring Bear
Product engineer Aaron Davidson and his brother pro-staffer Mike Davidson head out with Needle Rock Outfitters to hunt black bear. The rough terrain and volatile wind pose difficult challenges as they struggle to find a bear in a location where they can make a good shot and will be able to recover the trophy.
3 - Mike & Jeremy Idaho Mule Deer
Darwin Vander Esch and Heavens Gate Outfitters take Pro Staffers Jeremy Winters and Mike Davidson to Central Idaho. Once again the terrain is a serious challenge but trophy mule deer abound and Darwin has his eye on a special buck that has eluded him for more than 2 years.
4 - Jeremy New Mexico Coues Deer
Pro Staff Jeremy Winters travels to the southern most part of New Mexico to hunt with good friend and outfitter Randy Walter for the elusive Coues deer. They definitely get to see more than they bargained for.
5 - Porter’s Griz & Rick’s Ram
Pro Staff John Porter journeys to scenic wilderness of British Columbia looking for a Grizzly bear with Monashee Outfitting Ltd. He later returns to Wyoming to guide Rick to a record size ram in high country of the Absaroka Mountains.
6 - HSM Antelope Show
Product engineer Aaron Davidson brings some of his associates to the high plains of Wyoming to hunt Antelope. All the problems one would expect to encounter in Wyoming manifest them selves through out the hunt. Not to worry though these guys came prepared.
7 - Oryx Hunt with Ed Rochnowski
Join Pro Staff Jeremy Winters as he accompanies company friend Ed Rochnowski on an Oryx hunt near the White Sands Missile Range. Ed puts his own rifle to work with a Huskemaw scope to get the job done.
8 - Bighorn Sheep Hunt with John Porter
Pro Staff John Porter guides his brother Tim in Northwestern Wyoming as they search for a trophy Bighorn Ram. He then guides a hunter who wants to take his Ram with a hand gun which poses a unique challenge to john who specializes in long range shooting.

The Wyoming high country is the scene for this elk hunting adventure. Pro Staff Jeremy Winters assists Travis and Company as he looks for his first Bull Elk.

12 - BC Mountain Goat hunt
Product Engineer Aaron Davidson heads to Beautiful British Columbia with his brother Mike Davidson. Aaron is looking for a trophy mountain goat as a souvenir from the little jaunt. The Steep terrain that haunts most mountain goat hunters represents an obstacle but the changing weather and shifting wind really make it a hunt to remember. But Beaver Foot Outfitters make sure they get what they came for.
13 - Porter Alaskan Bear Hunt
Pro Staff John Porter travels to the wilds of beautiful B.C. to pursue the mountain Grizzly. A late spring and warm weather make this a grueling hunt, but John persists and makes one of the longest shots on a bear to date.
