On Your Own Adventures is the first of its kind hunting show that brings reality to the average hunter. No guide, no outfitters, no high fences, all on accessible lands. As some would say, “
Real Hunting”.
97% of big game hunters in America are non-guided hunters. Yet, of the 300 hunting shows on TV, none are exclusively dedicated to the concept of the On Your Own Hunter. Some will occasional portray a non-guided hunt, or a hunt on accessible lands, but no shows are exclusively dedicated to this type of hunting – hunt as it occurs for most of us.
In addition to telling the story of the On Your Own Hunter, we provide people the knowledge necessary to hunt on their own. Our goal is not merely to entertain, but to engage and encourage those who dream of these hunts, but struggle with the logistics and difficulties of doing so.
On Your Own hunting can be best demonstrated on the vast tracts of public lands found out West. Many of our episodes are filmed on these majestic landscapes – landscapes preserved and repopulated with game, due to the efforts of hunters.
Only in America, do we have this unique thing called
public hunters. No other place on earth has large expanses available for people of common means to pursue their quarry for nothing more than the cost of a tag, and the commitment to climb the next hill.
Conservation is an ethic, a behavior, a principle. An ethic first planted by hunters. Before hunters became the voice for wild places and wild animals, the game of our country was destined to a fate of eventual extinction. Through the efforts of hunters, mostly the non-guided hunters, a conservation ethic grew and resulted in a wildlife recovery that is the envy of the world. This is your story, and a story we hope to tell.
It is our approach to bring a dose of realism to the world of hunting television that is most unique. We seek not a destination, rather we savor the journey. Our success is not measured by the size of antlers or the netting of scores and inches. Our objectives are met by a mornings in the blind, a mountain climbed, and nights spent under the stars. Our trophies are new friends made and challenges met.
ABOUT RANDY NEWBERGRandy lives in beautiful Bozeman, Montana. Vast tracts of public land provide Randy to opportunity to pursue elk, deer, antelope, and all forms of wild game. He does so with rifle, shotgun, bow, or muzzleloader. No better place exists for the outdoor person seeking bountiful wildlife and big pieces of landscapes and rivers to exercise the skill of the cast or the mark of the track.
Randy is married to his wonderful wife Kim who shares his passion for the outdoors. Their son Matthew is a student at Cornell University, yet he still finds time for at least one family hunt each fall. In his real life, Randy is a partner in a CPA firm. When the busy time of tax season relents, Randy has the freedom to recharge himself by wading the trout streams of southwest Montana, or chasing antelope on the sage prairies of Wyoming.
Randy’s motivation to bring reality to the world of hunting television is born of his humble upbringing in rural Minnesota. He knows that if money had been a necessity for hunting, he would not be a hunter. Randy has been blessed to live his entire life in places where hunting is the culture – where hunting is not merely a seasonal interest, but a way of life. From that background has emerged Randy’s desire to tell the story of the average hunter in America.
On Your Own Adventures is Randy’s effort to tell that story as best he can.
