Inside USA Shooting
Most people have never heard of the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team. In reality, USA Shooting is expected (by USOC) to lead the way into the medal count in the Beijing Games next August. That fact was proven out in July when the Shooting Team won 20 medals at the 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro. Even more significant, 10 of those medals were gold medals!
Inside USA Shooting is a half-hour series that follows the efforts of this stellar group of individuals as they prepare to take China by storm in 2008. The Olympic shooting events are compromised of three disciplines: Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun, and together make up fifteen different events in the Games. Over the course of 18 episodes, Inside USA Shooting will follow the team to different competitions around the world and introduce America to the best in each discipline, as well as bright young stars in the shooting world. Viewers will meet veterans like Kim Rhode, already holding two Olympic Gold and a Bronze medal, fresh off a World Record performance in Women's International Skeet. She's joined by 18 year-old Vincent Hancock, World Champion and World Record Holder in Men's International Skeet. He's heading for his first Olympics, as young phenoms, Glenn Eller, Haley Dunn and Josh Richmond compete for the spotlight. In the rifle events, Gold Medalist Matt Emmons is dead on track for another medal in 2008, and is currently posting scores comparable to anyone in the world. What's really interesting is that, despite being among the best in the world at what they do, these people are modest, and all-around nice people, unlike many Olympic athletes these days.
Mike Smith is the host of Inside USA Shooting. A former television News Director and a 15-year veteran in the broadcasting business, Mike holds a masters degree in Film and Television from Syracuse University. Active in his community, Mike not only hosts Inside USA Shooting, but also does Oregon School sports and a Public affairs program on a regular basis. His drive and enthusiasm is the core of this program.
Episode 3: Colorado Springs, CO - "3x Air" Rifle/Pistol Events
In this show we cover the men's and women's 10-meter air rifle competitions, which determined who will represent the U.S.A. at the Pan American Games in Brazil. The men's event was noteworthy because the winner, 2004 Gold Medalist Matt Emmons, posted a three-day score which surpassed the "world class" level, and the women's event had a world-record tying single-round performance by Emily Caruso. Besides the events, we also have two in depth features, one on Matt Emmons – considered to be Top Three in the world - and one on Olympic hopeful Jamie Beyerle. Each of them ended up qualifying for the Pan Am team at this event.
Episode 4: Colorado Springs, CO - "3x Air" Rifle/Pistol Events
In this show we cover the men's and women's 10-meter air pistol competition, which determined who will represent the U.S.A. at the Pan American Games in Brazil. There are also two really interesting features in this show. The first is on Eric & Sandra Uptagraft, both members of the U.S.A. National Team. A few weeks after this event, Eric was scheduled to be deployed into Iraq, so we have a story about what it means to his Olympic Training and what it means to their relationship. The other feature is on Heather Deppe, one of the really bright stars of the future. She is only 16 but is already performing at world-class levels. We follow her to her home and talk with her family members to see how tight-knit they all are, and show how they were all willing to uproot from Texas and Minnesota to follow Heather to Colorado so she can train full time at the Olympic Training Center.
Episodes 5 & 6: Colorado Springs, CO - Olympic Trial Selection Competition - Shotgun
In these shows, we will watch what could become America's strongest Olympic Team in 2008 begin the section process for Beijing. In one episode, we focus on the Men's and Women's Skeet team, and check in on world record holders Vincent Hancock, and three-time Olympic Medalist Kim Rhode. Also featured will be Haley Dunn and Connie Smotek. In the other episode, we cover the Trap and Double Traps teams, as they steadily hone their skills for 2008. Glenn Eller, Josh Richmond, and Shawn Dulohery lead an impressive cadre of shooters. These episodes are complete and delivered to the network. We'll also meet 21 year old Corey Cogdell, on her way to Cypress for the Shotgun World Championships.
Episode 7: Fort Benning, GA - World Cup – Rifle Events
In this show we follow the American men and women as they compete against the best in the world in the 10-meter event and the 3-position 50-meter events. With more than 60 countries and 500 competitors in attendance, the spectacle is intriguing. To make it even better, America places on the medal stand for both the women and men in the 10-meter, and two Americans make the final eight in the men's 3-position competition. This show also has an in-depth feature on another of the bright young stars of the U.S. Team – Amanda Furrer, a 16-year-old who is on track to be an Olympian by 2008. She's entertaining and charming and a good "face" of the US Team.
Episode 8: Fort Benning, GA - World Cup – Pistol Events
In this show we slide away a bit from straight "competition" and look at what it takes to host a world Cup. With so many foreign athletes coming to a military base, and each of them carrying weapons, the challenges of putting on this event are many. We also take the viewers on a tour of Fort Benning, the largest military post on American soil. As for competitions, we cover the men's and women's air pistol events, where Heather Deppe performs very well against the top women in the world, including the reigning World Record Holder, reigning World Champion and reigning Olympic Gold Medalist. And we cover the rapid-fire pistol events, where John Ennis finishes in the Top Ten.
Episodes 9 & 10: Belgrade, Serbia - World Cup Finals - Shotgun
Two episodes from Belgrade will really show what USA Shooting is made of. Expect one episode to be devoted to Skeet, and one to Trap & Double Trap. We will also update the profiles of our current leaders in each discipline.

In these shows , we will see the final Olympic shotgun team emerge. Names like Glenn Eller, Vincent Hancock, Kim Rhode, Haley Dunn, Brandie Neal, Shawn Dulohery among others, will be walking the walk, and we'll be there.

Can Matt Emmons set a world record in a World Cup final in his home country? We think so. Will the rest of the rifle/pistol team have the stuff to secure an Olympic quota spot? We'll be there, and Outdoor Channel viewers will be the first to know.
Episodes 15 & 16: Colorado Springs, CO - Olympic Preview
We've watched the team get it together for the last year and a half, and we'll preview who's going, and what we can expect when they're there.

They went, they conquered, and they tell us about it. In two wrap-up specials, we'll list the results from the 2008 Games, demonstrate how the team did versus their expectations, and talk personally with key members of the team.
